Ironman Galway 4th September
Galway's first ever ironman takes place next month. With an open water swim in Galway Bay, a bike ride to Maam Cross and back and a run through Salthill and The Claddagh the brave competitors will do well not to be distracted by the beautiful scenery.
Galway International Oyster Festival 23rd-25th September
The Galway Oyster Festival has evolved from very modest beginnings. In September 1954, 34 guests attended the very first Oyster Festival Banquet. Now the idea of celebrating the opening of the oyster season with a festival is widely regarded as one of the most celebrated and longest running events in the world.

The Galway Races
The Autumn Race Meeting 2011 is a three day race meeting which takes place from Saturday, 27th August to Monday, 29th August. This race meeting is ideal for the seasoned punter, holiday makers or indeed a great family day out before children return to school after the summer break
The October Race meeting has always proven to be a favourite by all and it is a fantastic weekend of great racing and great craic! Children under 14 have free admission during the weekend.

Volvo Ocean Race 1st July 2012
The Volvo Ocean Race, the world's biggest sailing event will return to Galway to be the finish port for the Volvo Ocean Race 2011-12.
International Quilt Festival of Ireland 7th - 12th June 2012
This 6 day festival will take place on the NUIG campus, not only will it feature a dedicated Quilt Village but there will also be a Farmer's Market, a Brown Bread Shop and Chocolate stand. There will be hands-on quilting classes and an impressive dining pavillion. All this and much more will make the Quilt festival a must see and must do experience.
