Location – The Heart of Galway City

Eyre Square Hotel sits on Forster Street, right beside Eyre Square — Galway’s central park and the natural meeting point of the city. Our location consistently earns a 9.4 out of 10 from guests on Booking.com, and it’s easy to see why: everything you want to see, do, and experience in Galway is within walking distance.

Here’s how close you are to the best of Galway:

  • 1 minute — Galway train station (Ceannt Station) and bus station
  • 2 minutes — Shop Street (buskers, boutiques, and cafés)
  • 5 minutes — Latin Quarter and Quay Street (pubs, restaurants, live music)
  • 10 minutes — Galway Cathedral
  • 10 minutes — Spanish Arch and the Long Walk

You genuinely don’t need a car in Galway. The city is compact and walkable, and our hotel is at the centre of it all.

Getting Here

Galway is wonderfully well connected. The train from Dublin Heuston takes approximately 2.5 hours and drops you at Ceannt Station — literally a one-minute walk from our front door. Bus Éireann and Citylink coaches also arrive at the adjacent bus station, with regular services from Dublin, Cork, Limerick, and Shannon Airport.

Parking

Eyre Square Hotel does not have on-site parking, but we’ve arranged a discounted rate at Q-Park Eyre Square, just a five-minute walk from the hotel. Guests pay €18 per 24 hours (compared to the standard rate of €30/24hrs) — simply ask at reception for the discount code when you check in.

Things to Do Near Eyre Square Hotel

Galway is one of Ireland’s most vibrant, creative, and welcoming cities — and staying at Eyre Square Hotel puts you right at its heart. Here’s our insider guide to the best things to see and do, all within easy reach of the hotel.

Culture & Attractions

Galway is steeped in history and culture. Walk ten minutes from the hotel to the Spanish Arch, one of the last remaining pieces of the medieval city wall, and step into the Galway City Museum (free admission) right next door. Galway Cathedral, with its stunning Renaissance dome, is a ten-minute stroll along the River Corrib.

Shopping

Eyre Square Centre, a modern shopping mall, is directly across the square from the hotel. But for something more characterful, head to Shop Street — a two-minute walk — where you’ll find independent boutiques, traditional Aran knitwear shops, artisan jewellers, and McCambridge’s, Galway’s beloved delicatessen and food hall.

Pubs & Nightlife

Galway’s pub scene is legendary, and the Latin Quarter is where the magic happens. Quay Street and its side lanes are packed with atmospheric pubs where live traditional music sessions kick off most evenings. It’s all a five-minute walk from Eyre Square Hotel.

Day Trips

Galway is the gateway to some of Ireland’s most spectacular scenery, and guided tours depart daily from the bus station adjacent to the hotel. Visit the dramatic Cliffs of Moher, take a ferry to the Aran Islands, or explore the wild beauty of Connemara.

Festivals & Events

Galway has a festival for every season. The Galway Arts Festival (July) transforms the city into an open-air stage. The Galway Races (late July/early August) bring a carnival atmosphere. The Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival (September) is a must for food lovers. And the Galway Christmas Market turns Eyre Square — right on our doorstep — into a magical winter wonderland.
